How to choose a copier for prop accounts

Start with the platform

The copier has to connect to both the leader and every follower account. Futures firms run on Tradovate, Rithmic, NinjaTrader or ProjectX; forex firms on MT5, cTrader, Match-Trader, TradeLocker or DXtrade. Pick your platform in the filter above.

Size each account on its own

A $50K and a $150K account should not take the same position. Look for scaling by account size or risk, and for per-account limits that stop copying before a daily loss or drawdown is hit.

Count the accounts

Pricing is per account or per plan with an account cap. With many accounts a flat futures plan is usually cheaper; with two or three, per-account pricing is.

Check the firm's rule, not the copier's

No copier makes copying allowed. If a firm bans copy trading or limits it to its own accounts, that rule applies whatever software you use. Compare firms on PropFirmWay, then confirm the copy-trading rule in the firm's terms.

Trade copiers for prop firms: common questions

Is using a trade copier allowed by prop firms?

Most firms allow copying trades between accounts you own - for example from one funded account to your other accounts at the same firm. What they ban is copying someone else's trades, signal services and "group trading" where several people's accounts trade the same positions. The rules differ by firm and change, so read the firm's own copy-trading rule in its terms or FAQ before connecting accounts.

What does a trade copier do?

It watches a leader account and places the same trades on one or more follower accounts, scaled to each account's size or risk settings. Traders with several evaluations or funded accounts use it to trade them all at once instead of entering every order by hand.

Cloud copier or local copier?

A cloud copier runs on the vendor's servers and keeps copying when your computer is off. A local copier runs on your machine or a VPS you rent: you control the setup, but it only copies while that machine is running. Futures traders often put it on a VPS near the exchange in Chicago.

Can I copy from a forex account to a futures account?

Only with a copier that supports both platforms and maps the instruments - for example EURUSD to the 6E futures contract, with a lot-to-contract conversion. Of the copiers above, Traders Connect and MetaCopier cover both forex and futures platforms. Check the instrument mapping and the sizing before going live.

Does a copier help pass a challenge?

No - it copies your trades, good or bad, to every account. Each follower account still has its own daily loss limit, drawdown and consistency rule, and a copied loss can breach several accounts at once. Use per-account risk limits where the copier offers them.

How much does a trade copier cost?

From about $10 per account a month to $49-149 a month for futures plans that cover many accounts, as listed above. Some charge per account per day. Most offer a trial of 7-10 days or free credit.
