TradeLocker prop firms: common questions

What is TradeLocker?

A trading platform that runs in the browser and on mobile with nothing to install, built around TradingView charting. Prop firms adopted it as an alternative to MetaTrader, and for a trader the practical difference is that an account works from any machine you can open a browser on.

Why do so many prop firms use TradeLocker now?

Because MetaQuotes tightened access to MetaTrader 4 and 5 for prop firms in 2024, and firms needed somewhere to go. TradeLocker, Match-Trader, DXtrade and cTrader absorbed most of that migration, which is why a platform almost nobody named a few years ago now appears across a large share of the industry.

Can I run Expert Advisors on TradeLocker?

Not MetaTrader EAs — those are MQL programs and TradeLocker does not run them. If automated trading matters to you, check two things separately: whether the platform supports the automation you need, and whether the firm's own rules permit it at all. Both are listed in each challenge's trading rules.

Is TradeLocker better than MetaTrader for a challenge?

It depends on how you trade. TradeLocker wins on access and charting: no install, and TradingView tools built in. MetaTrader wins if you depend on the MQL ecosystem of expert advisors, indicators and backtesting built up over two decades. Neither affects whether you pass — the firm's rules do.
