Consistency rules by prop firm
The 26 firms we track that state a consistency rule, as they word it on their active challenges. Rules often differ between the evaluation and the funded account, so a firm can have more than one. Load a rule into the calculator above, then check it against the firm's own terms.

How the calculator works
Best day vs total profit
Best-day share = best day ÷ total net profit. You are within the rule while that share is at or below the limit. When you are over it, the total you need is best day ÷ limit; the gap to it is the extra profit shown. When you are within it, the next day can make up to limit × total ÷ (1 − limit) - or your current best day, whichever is larger - without breaking the rule.
Best day vs profit target
Some firms measure the best day against the profit target instead - Topstep states below 55% of it. The cap is then fixed: limit × account size × target %. It does not grow as you make more profit.
Best trade vs total profit
The same arithmetic with trades in place of days: enter each closed trade's result rather than each day's. Instant Funding applies a 15% best-trade rule to some of its accounts.
Minimum profitable days
Counts the days that made at least the threshold - a share of the starting account, such as 0.5%. Leave the threshold at 0 when any profitable day counts. Firms such as The5ers use this in place of a best-day cap.
Firms define a "day" by their own server time and some count only closed trades, so treat the result as a guide and confirm with your firm's dashboard.
Consistency rule: common questions
What is a consistency rule in prop trading?
A limit on how much of your profit can come from a single day (or, at some firms, a single trade). It stops a challenge being passed, or a payout being taken, on one outsized win. The most common form: your best day may not exceed a set percentage of your total profit.
How is the consistency rule calculated?
Divide your best day's profit by your total net profit. If you made $6,000 in total and your best day was $2,400, your best day is 40% of total profit - fine under a 50% rule, over the limit under a 30% one. Losing days lower the total, so they push the ratio up.
How much more profit do I need to fix a consistency breach?
Under a best-day-vs-total-profit rule, your total must reach best day ÷ limit. With a $2,400 best day and a 30% limit that is $8,000, so from a $6,000 total you need $2,000 more - made on days that each stay below $2,400, or the new day becomes the best day and moves the goal.
What happens if I break the consistency rule?
It depends on the firm. Usually it is not a loss-limit breach that ends the account: you keep trading until the ratio is back under the limit, and only then can you pass or request a payout. Some firms apply it only on the funded account, some only in the evaluation. The table on this page shows how each firm words its rule; always confirm on the firm's own terms.
What is a minimum profitable days rule?
Instead of capping your best day, some firms require a number of profitable days, each making at least a set share of the account - for example three days of at least 0.5%. On a $100,000 account that means three days of $500 or more. Pick "Minimum profitable days" in the calculator, or tick the box to check it alongside a best-day cap.
Which prop firms have a consistency rule?
26 of the firms we track state one on at least some of their challenges; the most common cap is 20%, used by 9 of them. See the table above, or compare challenges side by side.
